Over the years, we have seen a lot of faces come and go within the walls of Ahpin Dental Centre. We understand that getting to know your dental team is essential to your comfort while in our care, and also to trusting in your choice of provider. We thank you for the opportunity to provide the best possible care for you and your family, and in turn we would like to tell you a little about ourselves.

Dr. Peter Ahpin, B.D.S., F.D.S., R.C.S., D.Orth., M. Phil.

Pronunciation?
It seems we get all variations of such a simple name! We get a lot of Afin and Alfin, we get Ay-pin quite a bit and even some Aspins and an Aphid or two. Think of "a pin" in a haystack, it is pronounced A-pin, but if you get it wrong he answers to just about anything.

What do all the letters stand for?
Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Birmingham, England Fellowship in dental Surgery from the Royal College of Dental Surgeons, Edinburgh, Scotland Diploma in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Dental Surgeons, Edinburgh, Scotland and a Masters in Philosophy.

He was born in Mauritius, graduated from the University of Birmingham, England in 1982 and went on to specialize in orthodontics in Edinburgh, Scotland. He moved his family to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories and worked both there and in Hay River until purchasing a practice here in Spruce Grove in 1993. He has enjoyed living and working with the people of the community and looks forward to many successful years to come.

Emily, Financial Coordinator

Emily grew up by Stettler, Alberta has lived in Spruce Grove with her family since 1985, and has worked with us since 2000. She shares the administration position with Laurie and you will see her at the front desk when you come into the office for your visits, as well as hear from her regarding your preauthorizations and estimates.

Sheri, Registered Ortho Dental Assistant

Sheri's back! She originally worked for Dr. Ahpin from 1999 to 2001, she left us and has returned in 2007. Sheri attended NAIT and graduated in 1998, she is originally from Stony Plain. She is one of our ortho assistants and is well qualified in all aspects of dental assisting.

Janet, Registered Dental Hygienist

Janet graduated from the University of Alberta Dental Hygiene program in 1997 and has worked at Ahpin Dental Centre since 1999. Janet and her husband live in Spruce Grove and both have spent most of their lives here. In 2000, they joined a team of dental professionals and traveled to Honduras to provide much needed dental care for the local people and in 2003 Janet traveled with Dr. Ahpin to Gabon, Africa. Janet and her husband enjoy hiking and traveling. Janet works Thursday evenings and Fridays in our office, she also works in public health. She has a strong interest in children's oral health and hygiene, Janet put together our children's page.

Holly, Registered Orthodontic Dental Assistant, Level II

Holly started with Ahpin Dental Centre in October 2005 and works with us full time. She is originally from Edmonton and has lived in the area all of her life. She graduated from the NAIT program, Holly is one of our orthodontic assistants. She lives in the Stony Plain area with her husband.

Krista, Registered Dental Hygienist

Krista grew up in the farming community of Mayerthorpe. She graduated from Dental Hygiene at the University of Alberta in 1993 and she came to work with Dr. Ahpin in 1994. Krista resides in Spruce Grove with her husband and two children. Krista has a faithful following of patients and appointments with her are booked well in advance, she works Mondays and Wednesdays.

Laurie, Financial Coordinator

Laurie is one of Dr. Ahpin's part-time team members, sharing the position with Emily, they take care of all of the administration at the front desk. You will see Laurie when you come into the office or receive a phone call from her if you are having estimates done for you, she works Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. She is a Registered Dental Assistant, Level II, and has been in the profession since 1986. Laurie and her family were transferred from Regina, Saskatchewan to Edmonton in March of 2002 and Laurie started with Dr. Ahpin in October of the same year. She resides with her family in Stony Plain.

Lydia, Office Manager

Lydia was born in Ontario and has lived in Alberta since 1980. She started with Dr. Ahpin as Financial Coordinator in 1994 and since then has been Schedule Coordinator and is now Office Manager. You will see Lydia at the front desk sharing the duties with Laurie and Emily but she is mostly in her office doing bookkeeping and business management. She has lived in the Spruce Grove/Stony Plain area with her family since 1993.

Cheryl

Cheryl was a dental assistant before she became a hygienist in 1994. She came to work for us temporarily in 2003 and she’s still here! She loves to educate her patients on all aspects of oral hygiene, and don’t try and fool her if you aren’t flossing! She and her husband have lived in the Stony Plain area for years.

Lori

Lori was a dental assistant with her ortho module before she became a hygienist in 1995. She is passionate about educating her patients on orthodontics and smile reconstruction, she is also gifted with children. She has been with us since 2003, she intended to be here temporarily but it looks like she may be here to stay. She is a country girl and loves horses and dogs, if you need dog training, she’s your girl!

Taruna

Taruna is just joining us on a contract basis as she shares her time between Canada and the U.S. She was a dental assistant for years with her ortho module before she became a hygienist in 2007.

Ivan

Ivan is our locum/replacement dentist for Dr. Ahpin when he takes a holiday. Ivan has years of experience and currently works in several different locations doing work that is different than working in a office setting every day. You will see him when Dr. Ahpin is out of town on vacation or doing his continuing education courses every year, we are very lucky to have him with us.
